WELCOME TO 2023

WELCOME TO 2023

Hello to you all and a special welcome to our new families.
Monday 30th January sees the beginning of another school year  – I am really looking forward to catching up with you all again. Our new buildings are progressing smoothly and look pretty spectacular. It won’t be long before senior classes will move in; also the Art Room, Library and Science/Technology spaces – I can’t wait!
Meanwhile it has been wonderful to see many of you who have already called into school last week.
On Monday morning, both gates will be opened at 8.45; Barton Street and O’Connor Street, and. I know there will be many excited students ready and waiting to catch up with friends and join their new classes. If you have booked your child into Out of School Hours Care, the O’Connor Street gate will be open.

Hello again to all our school families!

This term has seen so many wonderful events; students have settled in and all classes are working well. After two disruptive years, it’s great to be able to plan and know that it will actually happen.

This week is planning time for the teachers as they organise their program for Term 2. I know that some excursions have already been booked. That’s something to look forward to.

At the start of term two, we plan to have parents come into the school yard again, both before school in the mornings and after school. We would also like to re-start our “volunteer” program for parents who have some time and would like to assist in classrooms.

START of SCHOOL YEAR
After four weeks of school, it is very clear that students have settled in extremely well.
This week is the first full week of school for our Foundation students; so many of them are already making
their own way to class in the mornings and having fun around the school yard confidently.
Congratulations to all senior students for making our Athletics carnival at Edwardes Park such a great success
– some photos are available to see on our Facebook page

Holiday Break
I would like to wish all our families a wonderful break. Enjoy Christmas celebrations or just spending valuable time with your families. The weeks will pass, and it won’t be long before we’re all preparing for school once again. All students return on 31st January.
Reservoir Art Gallery – opening
On Monday, our student’s art exhibition space was officially opened. Our artist Safak was in attendance with families of the Reservoir Art Representatives. Whilst we had to go ahead with this in a small way due to restrictions, next year we look forward to holding more exhibitions in the gallery.

PREP TRANSITION
We have now had three sessions with our enthusiastic new Preps for 2022.
They have met their teacher and they know which Group they are in.
The excitement and enthusiasm about coming to school, learning, and having fun with friends is wonderfully
obvious. A couple of them are already wearing their school uniforms!

IT’S GREAT TO BE BACK!
Teachers are working extremely hard to catch up on their teaching program and also their assessments. After
so long away from school, it is imperative that teachers have an accurate picture of where every child is at in
all curriculum areas. Of course the aspects of English and Mathematics are a priority.
WORK CONTINUES ON OUR GYM

NAPLAN
I enclose a letter from the Education Minister:
The incredible resilience and hard work of Victorian educators, students and families has been reflected in the remarkable results for this year’s NAPLAN tests.

Leading the nation
Victoria has held the top spot as the highest-performing jurisdiction on seven out of ten measures in the primary school years. Our Year 3 and Year 5 numeracy results were the highest in the country.

WE WOULD LIKE TO REMIND PARENTS THAT OUR PREP ENROLMENTS for 2022 ARE OPEN!
If you have a child who turns 5 before the end of April next year, they are eligible to begin school. If you have relatives or friends, can you please ask them to obtain an enrolment form and return it to the office. The forms are on our website.

Progress on our Gym.
Work continues. Roofing sheets arrived and are now being put into place. Preparations are now going on for the concrete  slab for the other section of the gym.
I am constantly amazed at the works; how it is happening before our eyes.
