Newsletter Issue 14: 20 September 2024

Dear RPS Community,

It’s hard to believe this is the final day of Term 3! This term has been jampacked with exciting events and news, culminating in Footy Colours Day and the amazing Year 2 sleepover last night. There were certainly some tired bodies (staff too!) today but we had fun.

Mini Fair

Mini-fair is happening again next term in Week 4. Please look out for ways you can support this great fun afternoon with donations for stalls. You may also want to run a stall yourself to raise money for the school. Look out for more information in this newsletter.

Newsletter Issue 13: 6 August 2024

Dear Reservoir Primary Community,

This week we have had a visit from Andrew and Loretta from Preston Police, who delivered important presentations regarding cybersafety to parents and students in Grade 3-6. They will be returning next week for sessions for students in Grade Prep-2.

Andrew and Loretta delivered the Think u Know presentation, with a focus on cybersafety, in particular, preventing child exploitation and grooming. Their key messages for students were:

Never speak to people online unless you have met them in person
Tell an adult if you are worried
Never give people online your name, age or where you live.

Key messages for parents were:

Make sure you are supervising your child’s online activity – parental controls are not enough
Report any concerns to the e-safety commissioner or police
Ensure your child feels safe to tell you if they have handed over information or money to someone online.

Term 3 has been absolutely jam packed with exciting events and important celebrations. Over the past fortnight alone we have marked Bullying No Way: A Week of Action, Science Week and Book Week! It seems every week is something new to learn and celebrate. Next week is Wear It Purple Day, and the week after Curriculum Day where our staff will be trained in a Whole School Approach to Respectful Relationships. Please note that Curriculum Day, 30th August is student free, and as previously communicated, we will not be offering an OSHC service.

Dear RPS Community,

What a wonderful week we had celebrating 100 years of Reservoir Primary School.

We had many visitors through our exhibition throughout the week, a day of dress ups and activities on Wednesday, 100 days brighter with our Preps, an amazing Musical Soiree Assembly, and over 300 Alumni on Saturday (see page 5 for photos). We also had a visit from MP Nathan Lambert who was amazed at how great the school looks and the improvements that have been made. A big thank you to everyone who participated; many hours of preparation goes into events like these and they can’t happen without passionate people giving up their time.

Dear Reservoir Primary School Community,

This is our first newsletter for Term 3 so I want to welcome all students and families back from our winter break; I enjoyed lazy days hibernating, but managed a few days out to the movies and to the city with my family. I hope you all feel rested and ready to go for another busy term.

Welcome back to staff members Gaye Clark, James Cosgriff and Lauren Bastone from leave.

Last week I sent out communication regarding what’s on in the first 6 weeks; please carefully read our key dates section as there is plenty to get excited about. Make sure you are preparing your outfits for next week’s Centenary Celebrations – dress from any decade you like! And do remember we also have the Science Week competition and Book Week not too far away!

Newsletter Issue 9: 28th June 2024

Dear RPS Community,

Thank you to Helen Miller

Helen Miller announced her retirement from the Victorian Education Department last week.

Helen has made an enormous impact on thousands of children across her 35 years at Reservoir Primary, and created a legacy which will be felt for many years to come. In Helen’s time as Principal, our school grew in enrolment, changed dramatically in the make up of its children and families, was completely refurbished and re-built, and ushered in new curriculum, new technology and many new programs. Helen has ensured that, year after year, our students meet or exceed literacy and numeracy benchmarks, and through her leadership, ensured our students have the best start to life.

We thank Helen and wish her all the best in her hard earned retirement (I know you hate that word Helen!). The community thanked Helen today at assembly and in classrooms she visited, and we as a staff will formally thank her next term.

Pyjama Day

Today our Young Leaders hosted Pyjama Day, raising money for 300 blankets, a charity “dedicated to helping homeless young people in Victoria.” This initiative was entirely the doing of our Young Leader team, a wonderful example of our values on display. The Young Leaders also organised our Ride to School Day last week with great success.

Newsletter Issue 8: 14th June 2024

Dear RPS Families,

I hope you had a restful long weekend; it certainly was timely as we noticed lots of students away with colds and flu. With two weeks left, I hope all students feel rested and ready to work hard all the way to the end of term.

Reports and Reporting Day

Teachers spent Tuesday (as well as many long hours leading up to Tuesday) writing reports, to be distributed to families Friday 21st June. You will have the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher on Wednesday 26th June. You will also be able to book Specialist teachers if needed, however this is not compulsory.

Please note that Wednesday 26th June is a student free day, and we will not be able to offer OSHC on this day.

Reconciliation Week

This year’s theme “Now More Than Ever” echoes the responsibility we hold as educators and as a community to incorporate truth telling and Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander perspectives into our everyday practice. This week shines a light on how we as individuals and as a community can contribute to an inclusive, diverse and rich society.

This week, as is the case throughout the year, we learn about Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander culture and history. We tell stories, share artwork and celebrate this rich tradition. Every classroom, specialist and OSHC have spent time learning, and we will ensure this learning does not stop after this week, but continues as our students grow.

Education Week

This week we celebrate Education Week – a chance to recognise the importance public education plays in our democracy, and the role universal access to quality education plays in the futures of our young people. It was great to see families visiting classrooms and seeing education in action.

We also continued our Prep 2025 tours on Tuesday morning, and a highlight on Education Week at assembly.

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day in the Prep space was attended really well and I enjoyed watching our youngest students showing love and thanks to their Mums and special people. Thanks to the Prep team for organising this event.
